Standard Scoliosis Treatment
Our standard non-surgical, non-bracing scoliosis treatment protocol is designed for patients who live within driving distance of our clinic, typically within a 3-hour radius. We call it “standard” because it follows a typical timeline and not the “intensive treatment” schedule. The appointments range between thirty minutes to two hours, depending on your condition, stretched comfortably over three to four months.
What can you expect when you go in for Advanced Health and Rehabilitation Center’s Standard Scoliosis Treatment?
Advanced Health and Rehabilitation Center’s Standard Scoliosis Treatment works to relieve your pain, stabilize and reduce your curvature, and get you back to a healthy place in a non-surgical, non-bracing way. That’s right…no surgery, no bracing, effective results. First, the muscles, tendons, and ligaments each need to be warmed up separately so the spine can be moved effectively, so we mix—or warm up—the spinal tissues. Then we perform a gentle spinal manipulation, moving the spine and eliminating any dysfunctional motions. Then we use active body orthotics and other rehabilitative procedures to “retrain” your brain to effectively hold and stabilize the scoliotic curvature. (See more of what to expect on your first visit here.) Please don’t wait to schedule your free consultation.
Intensive Scoliosis Treatment
We are proud to be one of only nine clinics in the United States that can perform Intensive Scoliosis Treatment programs as developed by the CLEAR Institute. Our patients come from all over the United States and from around the world as well, and vary in age from 11 up to 78. They all have one thing in common: they want to stabilize and reduce their scoliotic curve naturally. While our Standard Treatment program stretches over three to fourth months for our patients who live locally, our Intensive Treatment program is carefully scheduled within a one or two week period for our patients who live out of the area. We invite you to stay at a nearby hotel while you are immersed in our highly focused Intensive Treatment program. The length of time will depend on your type of scoliosis and your individual needs, but typically will not exceed two weeks.
What can I expect when I go in for Intensive Treatment?
As a patient in our Intensive Treatment program, you receive the full attention of the Standard Treatment; we dedicate our entire clinic exclusively to Intensive Treatment patients each Tuesday and Friday. Building on your free initial phone consultation, your first day includes a complete case evaluation, including x-rays, as well as a mechanical stress test to see how your body responds to scoliosis treatment. If applicable, we review your previous x-rays and medical records. Following that, you undergo one to three treatments per day, depending on your individual situation. We apply various types of mixed, fix, and set treatment protocols to stabilize and reduce your scoliotic curvature. (Our patients have seen average curvature reductions of 25-50 percent.) At the end of your treatment program, we send you home with rehabilitation equipment designed to maintain, and in some cases continue to reduce, your scoliotic curvature. If we prescribe a home, scoliosis traction chair, we will show you how to use this chair and then have it shipped to your house so you can continue to work on your scoliotic curvatures. Other times we might use local doctors to monitor your progress and follow up on any problems. Patients who undergo our Intensive Treatment program are often surprised at the tremendous amount of ground they gain during the brief treatment period. They are also very pleased with the personal focus the staff and doctors show them. Please don’t wait to schedule your free consultation.
Early Stage Scoliosis Treatment (ESST)
Receiving a diagnosis of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) can be frightening news for parents and their affected child. It’s a diagnosis that raises many questions, most importantly, what lies ahead? Many doctors tell parents to “watch and wait.” Watching and waiting is probably the last thing you want to do when your child’s health is at stake. Why watch and wait while the curvatures get worse, when you can intervene now and have better outcomes? All large scoliosis curves have one thing in common; they started out as small ones. There are multiple components to AIS, but the two major ones are genetic and environmental biomechanical factors. Our Early Stage Scoliosis Treatment (ESST) protocol seeks to address both of these. The genetic factor can now be quantified and better understood through a genetic screening test called ScoliScore. Recently the Scoliscore genetic test has made the news, and offers promise to better predict which patients should pursue an aggressive non-surgical treatment program. A high Scoliscore test indicates a higher genetic predisposition towards curve progression and that the patient may qualify for an earlier orthopedic intervention. A low score indicates a lower genetic predisposition and that the patient may have higher biomechanical factors, and would see great results from our scoliosis therapy. The Advanced Health and Rehabilitation Center Team offers a non-surgical, three-to-four month treatment program, or an intensive one-to-two week program. We have proven success reducing and minimizing scoliosis and are proud to administer the ScoliScore test on site without a waiting period.
